The Renovation Challenge is an exciting and new way to fundraise for local Shelter Based Charities and non-profit Organizations in our community, while raising awareness of various Ottawa Causes, increasing knowledge and quality of property renovations and maintenance, and also providing an opportunity to make a positive change in our community.
Our volunteers will be given a short amount of time, and a substantial budget, to renovate a home purchased by Jody Lavoie.
Our featured charities will each win a portion of the “Profit” generated from the sale of the home. The Renovation Challenge will manage the home and oversee the renovations from a safety, logistics and quality standpoint. All other details about the type of improvements will be at the discretion of the participants. The home will be single family home in Ottawa, located in a central neighborhood. The home will be inspected for major structural defects and problems.
Participants will be divided into groups, each with its own goals and objectives. The groups are arranged once the home is purchased, and the tasks are assessed.
Each group will work as a team to complete renovations (minor and major) to the home. The Renovation Challenge will give each group a budget and all necessary permits and approvals. Groups will have access to the property 24/7, but only for a short time to finish all of the renovations and improvements.
When the renovations are complete, participants will hold an open house to show off the improvements, and greet potential buyers. The home will also be judged by 3 prominent community figures, and prizes will be awarded for the most improved areas.
At the end of the renovation process the home will be listed on MLS, and sold.
